Buying The Right Bed Sheets: The Ultimate Guide

Buying sheet sets for your bed is a big decision and can be difficult to decide on what type of product you want because there are so many different options.

Lucky for you, this article has broken them all down so that it's easier to find the right choice for your preferences!

Do you have allergies or want something that doesn't want to make you get out of bed in the morning? There are many sheet sets that are available for purchase but you can’t know which ones will work for you without looking into the details.

If you want to find the right sheets, check out our guide!

No matter what type of sheet sets you're in the market for, it's important to know what to look for in a quality set.

Four characteristics that you should look when buying bed sheets:

  1. Fabric -It's important that your sheets are made from fibres that can breathe and allow moisture to evaporate.

  2. Durable and comfortable

  3. Another thing to consider is fitted corners. If the corners don't fit snugly around each corner of your bed, some newer mattresses have deeper walls which may need you to need mega-size sheet sets.

  4. The size should also be considered since large or too small will cause problems as well. Make sure that the mattress sheet has a proper fit.

What is Thread Count?

One popular misconception about thread count is that the higher the thread count, the better the sheet. Thread count is calculated by adding together the numbers of lengthwise (warp) and widthwise (weft) threads within a certain area.

For example, a cotton sheet with 200 warp threads and 200 weft threads in each square inch of fabric would have a listed thread count of 200.

There are many factors to take into consideration when purchasing sheets and it's more than just thread count.

Things like quality, fabric weight, and durability also contribute to the overall quality of the sheets.

Fabric/Materials

Cotton Sateen

The Sateen weave is a one-yarn-under and three-yarn-over weave, that exposes more surface area of the naturally soft & luxurious fibres silky, luminous sheen at a fraction of the price of silk sheets.

Sateen weave  bedding is both durable and gentle, perfect for allergy sufferers and for hot sleepers.

Cotton Percale

Percale sheets are a type of fabric that is well-known for it's cool and crisp feel. Because the threads are woven tightly together, percale sheets are soft in texture without losing any crispness.

Bamboo Cotton

Good quality bamboo bedding is extremely soft, & feels luxurious on the skin. This is because of bamboo’s natural fibres that are both highly absorbent & anti-bacterial.

At the Manchester Factory our Sienna Living bamboo cotton sheets are an Egyptian cotton blend to bamboo sheets which increases durability, and helps the bamboo sheets to hold their shape.

Some bamboo sheets are made without a sateen weave and with cheaper cotton or polyester blends. The best bamboo sheets have both a sateen weave and an Egyptian cotton blend.

Egyptian Cotton

Egyptian Cotton is defined as sheeting woven from long-staple fibers and finished in a smooth, crisp sateen weave.

Heavier with deep dips and curves, the sumptuous fabric is known to be durable with just one wash, breathable - allowing body temperature to escape naturally as you sleep - and will soften as it ages.

American Pima

Pima cotton sheets are a textile luxury for your bed. The fabric is high-grade Pima cotton and a lot more durable than standard cotton.

Manufacturers claim Pima textiles can have upwards of 50% longer life expectancy, making them a great investment option.

American Pima is also reffered to as the worlds sofest cotton.

Cotton Rich

Also known as Cotton Poly & Cotton Blend

Cotton rich is a term used for fabrics in sheets sets that have a higher component of cotton than polyester.

The fabric is a blend.CVC fabrics, which are made with one side of cotton and one side of polyester, offer an elegant solution for stylishly affordable bed sheets. These sheets provide a luxurious option that remains soft and easy to wash without the expense of more expensive options. Alternatively the weave are blended with polyester.CVC fabris is alot more comfortable and softer then a polyester cotton

Generally cotton rich sheets are consistent of at least 50% cotton. Cotton rich sheets are a fantastic open for those who are looking for bedding that doesnt wrinkle or crease as much.
