How To Style Your Bedroom

Have you ever noticed how the style of your living space can transform your mood? With the right combination of colors, textures, and homewares, any home can become a warm and inviting space.

This article highlights all the different aspects of styling your bedroom. From choosing between natural materials or plush fabrics to picking out furniture pieces that will help create an appealing room.

This week Jess from Home Styling with Jess an interior designer shares with the Manchester Factory her top tips on how to style your bedroom.

"Styling your bedroom is all about discovering the right combination of beautiful homewares and soft furnishings that can assist in transforming your bedroom into a dreamy, relaxing space".

Here are some of my tips on how I like to achieve this:

Let’s talk bedding.

I’m such a lover of quality bedding, and since you spend 1/3 of your life in bed, why not make it as luxurious as possible. My go-to colour for bed linen is neutrals!

You can never go wrong with these colours and it always makes your bed feel so crisp and clean. To add texture and colour, I usually tend to go for throws and cushions to bring interest and warmth to the bedroom.

Cushions are essential in creating that stylish bed you’re after, but how many? Three is a magic number in styling, so I tend to stick with this as I don’t prefer copious amounts of cushions, as to me it’s not very practical and is a massive pain taking them off when you’re jumping into bed at the end of a long day!

Have fun with your cushions and mix different shapes, colours, textures and designs to keep it interesting. I’ve always loved investing in cushion covers so you can mix them up, without having to break the bank.

Throws are also the perfect way to add texture and create that warm and cosy feel that we all love.

Create a colour palette or theme in your bedroom

Your bed is the main focal point in a bedroom, so choose a colour design around your bedding to set the tone for the rest of the space.

Your bedroom is your sanctuary and personal getaway, so choose colours that make you feel relaxed and help you unwind from the day.

This is why I’m such a fan of light and neutral colours, it’s perfect for creating a calm and chill vibe.

Greys, whites and beige tones are great to add warmth and then you can allow the furniture and bedsheets to create the colour elements.

Although neutrals may be the norm for most people, don’t be afraid to go bold! If you have a larger room to play with, this might give you more of an opportunity to test out bold colours and patterns. In doing this, make sure you have sufficient lighting and choose your colours around this.

For example: if you choose a dark accent wall, the wrong lighting can make the space feel dark and dingy and even create the effect of a smaller room.

Styling a smaller bedroom can be tricky, but reflecting light is definitely the secret to making your space feel much larger than it is.

Adding décor items such as mirrors are the perfect way to create that illusion of a bigger room as it helps to make it feel lighter, brighter and more spacious.

Bedroom wall décor

When there’s an empty wall and you’re not sure what to do with it, choose a statement wall piece. You can’t beat beautiful wall art!

Whether it’s above your bed or alongside it, it’s a statement to any room and is a great decorative accessory to brighten up the space and add some personality.

If wall art isn’t your thing, another option is to hang a statement mirror or wall hangings. This is guaranteed to add major bold appeal and a stunning focal point.

Instead of adding something above your bed, you could also opt for a decorative bed head, there are endless amounts of options and styles to choose from.
